The Guest List by Lucy Foley is a mystery thriller book about a wedding that takes place on a far-off untouched Island. The bride and groom seem like a perfect hotshot couple. The groom is a handsome, charming, and a rising TV -star, whereas the bride is a confident, smart and successful magazine publisher.
The story revolves around the story of different guests that attend the wedding. We go through the struggles of these people individually and how they could be the potential suspect of "the incident" at the wedding. This was a much-hyped book and so I had to read it, but honestly, I didn't understand the hype now. The writing is of course impeccable. Lucy has a great writing style, but the storyline fell off at many places for me. Firstly, there were multiple POVs. All these people were describing their struggles and their hidden insecurities, which threw me off. The start was good, the middle felt tooo stretched out and the ending was abrupt. A lot of information regarding Will's schooling felt a little too stretched as that didn't really have much impact on the storyline. Yes, we get to understand the character of will through these past glimpses, but even then it was a little too stretched than required. All the guests as well the bride & groom seemed a little too selfish and self-absorbed. I know that's how the world works, but it is a little too much when not a single person in the book looks normal. Well except for Hannah maybe.
Overall, I am not happy with the book, and is an okay read for me.
